Are you struggling with fear?
Fear. I am typically not a fearful gal. But there have been some times that I can really pinpoint struggles with fear.
The most recent one was when I was going to the Middle East to serve and that same week things in an already dicey part of the world got even dicier. Like extra bombs dropping and planes being shot down dicey. I wondered if I was making the right decision in my yes to go.
I wondered what would happen while there.
Fear snuck in and felt like it would stay.
And Psalm 91 was something I repeated every night as I went to sleep there and as soon as I woke up there. The whole time I was serving there. On the plane there.
When I got back home and had seen heartbreaking life-changing stuff there.
He is a God that I can take refuge in. He is good and He is my refuge.
There is quite a chance that you are feeling afraid right now. One scroll through social media, or watching the news might feel like it will do you in. If you are not afraid of the virus you may find yourself afraid of the toilet paper shortage.
I mean they ran out of the one ply cheap toilet paper that I use at the grocery store that you have to use a quarter to rent your buggy for goodness sakes.
Maybe this time feels super uncertain to you.
Maybe it is full of disappointment with canceled plans, vacations, school’s being out.
Maybe you already struggle with lonely or isolated feelings.
I do not know where you are, but I do know where you can run.
To the one who can cover all of those feelings under the shadow of His wings.
You can trust Him. You can bring all the feels to Him. You can find refuge in Him.
Refuge: a condition of being safe or sheltered from pursuit danger or trouble
Maybe you are thinking how do I do that?
I love that we can talk to the God of the universe. We can pray. Can I encourage you to do a few things
- make a mental or a physical list of the ways you have seen God work in your life in the past
- What are you thankful for in the present?
- Make a list of your fears about the future– pray through them, cry through them, ask someone to help you pray through them
Reach out to your friends if you are struggling.
Look to encourage those who may be struggling.
Things are being canceled right and left so that people aren’t together in a crowd.
You want to know the SAFEST place for a crowd right now?
The Psalm 91 place. The shadow of the Almighty. God. Resting in Him.
