Tired of trying to be invited to the table?
For the month of May, I am replaying some the most listened to episodes of Coming Alive Conversations –and the Coming Alive tribe resonated so much with my interview with Heather Holleman — as did I.
I want you to pause and think about your middle school years. Do you remember the middle school cafeteria? Maybe you were one of the popular crowd? Or maybe you remember walking into that cafeteria with the round plastic tables and chairs and wondering which table you would be invited to sit at?
I still remember the smell of that public school cafeteria so well. And the trays people had with their square pizza and corn trying to balance them and not make the classic mistake of accidentally dumping your tray of food all over the cafeteria.
Without realizing it, we can carry our middle school insecurities around with us.
I can wonder who is going to invite me to the table.
And let’s think about how social media invites us to a peek at everyone’s table around us.
Even in our pandemic situation of Spring 2020 (words I never would have thought I would type), it can be easy for us to compare how we “did pandemic” to how someone else did.
I tried a plank a day challenge that someone posted on Instagram– FAILED IT.
Tried to bake fresh bread– FAILED it
Did however do a 1,000 piece puzzle (NAILED IT) only to knock it off the table when I finished.
This is one of the reasons I wanted to replay this episode. In our interview Heather discusses the struggles that led her to realize she was not living as a seated woman, one who was given a seat at the table, she was living as one fighting for a seat.
What “table” do you find yourself thinking you need to sit at to come alive.
Praying through that question was eye-opening for me. After I prayed it, I prayed that God would open my eyes and heart to remember that Ephesians 2:6 invites me to the table to be seated with Christ.
I don’t know about you, but I want to live seated.
