Need some fun devotional activities for your kiddos during this time?

Hi friends!

What a time in the world!  I have so many thoughts and so many prayers for you during this time.

I imagine people are online much more than usual in our current virus crisis of 2020 (if you are reading this years later I am sure you will not have forgotten this time in our world)

I want to provide hope and encouragement to my wonderful Coming Alive tribe as much as I can during this time.

So today’s post is for those of you that are looking for some free easy devotional kids activities during this time of quarantine/no school.

My sister, Michelle Humbert is brilliant at these things. She is a mom of four ranging from age 1-11 so she has to get creative to fill her kiddos times. You can thank her for this!

I am typing out some of her ideas, sharing a graphic for you and also there will be a youtube video for you to watch (even if you are not a mama looking for ideas watch it because there is a great deal of laughter and hope in this video as well!)

Activity ideas:

Bible verse:  Isaiah 43:1-2

Activities ideas

  • Have your kids write their names and then craft away using whatever supplies you have on hand to “bling” up their names.  Glue sticks, glitter, feathers– the world is your oyster (well since there is a quarantine whatever you have at home!)  Then talk about how God has called them by name and knowing that can help us when we are afraid
  • Put shaving cream in a cookie sheet and have your kiddos write their names in the shaving cream.  Enjoy the mess 🙂 They write, erase, write and erase. Remind them God knows their name
  • Write their names outside in sidewalk chalk and have them find their names, then have a name writing contest
  • Make a collage of their name out of magazine clippings
  • Play Marco Polo outside or inside.  “Marco” will call out their name and the “polo’s” will respond, ” mine” to remind them of this verse
  • For older children have them look up the meaning of their name and look for how to say it in other languages

Bible verse:  Mart 4:35-41 Jesus calms the storm

  • Talk about how Jesus calmed the storm.  How the disciples were afraid but Jesus was asleep and when He woke up He told the waves to be still
  • Build paper boats.  Have contests using straws who can blow the paper boats the furthest (you could use a small tub or the big tub.  Enjoy getting creative)  Make waves for the boats.  Have someone play Jesus and tell the waves to be still.
  • Get a blanket (preferably blue) and make it wave by grabbing the ends (like the old parachute game).  Put balls inside and try to keep the balls up in the air. You could have one of the children or you play Jesus and tell the waves when to stop
  • Staple two paper plates together with dried beans inside (or small rocks) and have them use these to make the sounds of the storm.  They will stop when  “Simon” says peace.
  • Have a sleepover in the living room (or nap time) with sleeping bags talking about how Jesus was asleep in the boat when the disciples woke him.
  • If you happen to have a life-jacket at home do relay races with the lifejacket (going to get it fastest, passing it ect– enjoy being creative) and talk about how Jesus is our life-saver even in the storms of life.

Here is our video if you would love some laughter, hope, and these ideas.  Click here is you are receiving this via e-mail to watch.
