How to Savor the Season: Coming Alive at Advent Day 2 : Jennifer Hand

Just two days into Advent and I am super excited about today. Not only are we coming alive together in Advent, today I get to invite you to a “Christmas Party” of sorts we had on my podcast when I got to interview my dear friends Katie Reid and Lee Nienhuis.

Lee and Katie have an awesome podcast the Martha and Mary Show. They started this podcast because Katie relates more to Martha in the Bible and Lee to Mary.

I think we each have our tendencies toward one or the other.

So how do a Mary and a Martha type each handle Christmas? How can we take time to pause and come alive in this busy season whether we are a Martha or a Mary or a mixture of both?

In the book The King is Coming: Coming Alive at Advent this week we are talking about waiting. Knowing that in our waiting God is always working behind the scenes.

In the book, we talk about how we invite some of the prophets to the Christmas party. For example, Isaiah and Micah were proclaiming years before Jesus broke from heaven to walk on earth that a Messiah was coming.

Immanuel God with us.

The Word made flesh.

This was a promise from God.

Our promise maker is a promise keeper.

That Word made flesh in Jesus grew from a baby to a boy to a man.

Jesus dwelt among us.

He went to Mary and Martha’s house. He sat with them. He ate food with them. He reminded Martha not to be worried and upset about so many things.

He grieved the death of their brother with them.

And then He showed His miracle bring the dead back to life power to them.

So today, Mary and Martha’s alike, let’s come alive this Day 2 of Advent knowing that the promise maker is the promise keeper.
