Coming Alive at Advent Day 11

AdventDay11

The theme of this week in the King is Coming: Coming Alive at Advent is watch and hope.

On days 9 and 10 we looked at Ruth and Noami and how they saw God work in the details of their stories.

When we look at the family line of Jesus in Matthew chapter 1 we see the names of lots of normal people like you and me.

The characters in the entire Christmas story are also normal people like me and you.

They are ordinary people who had an extraordinary God working His glory in their stories.

We also have this God working.

But sometimes we need a reminder to watch for it. To hope for it.

To trust God’s work.

Ruth and Naomi had to trust God would provide for them– and He did.

Rahab, the prostitute mentioned in the family line of Jesus (check out Joshua 2 and 6) had to trust in God for his protection hanging by a scarlet thread– and He did.

Joseph had to trust that what the angel said was true, that His soon to be wife was in fact carrying the son of God– and He did.

Each of these characters was watching God’s glory unfold.

He provided. He guided. He protected. He pursued.

And He is still doing that work in us today.

Come alive at Christmas today knowing that God is working in your story.

What if this Christmas we watch?  Watch for the Lord in our stories?  Watch for the ways God is revealing His glory?  Watch for Jesus in the cashier in the checkout line?  Watch for Jesus in the time with our family?  Watch for Jesus by studying His words?  Watch for Jesus by listening to His voice?

Let’s watch. Let’s wait. Let’s listen.  When we find him, like the shepherds, let’s worship him. Let’s be filled in wonder about Him.
