.. locust and honey eating Jesus pointing…. #Lent#day6

Some sun andvitamin sea

John the Baptist.  What an interesting fellow.  The Bible describes him as a locust eating, camel hair wearing prophet who lived in the wilderness.  We are introduced to him in John 1:19-34 and in Matthew 3.

Now, I was a missionary, and sometimes missionaries do some weird stuff to share about Jesus with the people.  However, in my missionary days, I never wore camel hair.  I did ride on a camel.  And let me tell you, they are stinky animals.

I was known to eat some weird things, though.  One of my least favorites was the pig lung, which I tried to throw out the window when no one was looking.  Sadly, it hit someone in the head that was walking by, and they brought it back in for me to eat.  Like it just slipped off my fork or something.

John the Baptist knew from the beginning that he existed to point the way to Jesus.

The people kept wanting to make him the “Christ.” Or at least a cool prophet, like Elijah raised from the dead.

But John knew exactly who he was and why existed.  He existed to point the way to Jesus.

It’s easy to forget who we are and why we exist.  Truthfully, sometimes it is easy to be a glory stealer.  I imagine if I were John the Baptist, I would have enjoyed the crowds that came to the wilderness to hear from ME.  I might have good intentions, but before I knew it, I imagine I would make it about me.

I do that in my real life.  Like me, notice me, pay attention to me.

I get so caught up in THOSE things that I miss THE thing.  Preparing the way for Jesus.  Pointing to Jesus.  Declaring who Jesus is and how that changes who I am.

John 1:29 tells us that when he saw Jesus coming he immediately proclaimed who He was. “Behold the lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!”

He declared who Jesus was and how that changed who he was.

Digging Deeper:  Read John chapter 1:19-51.  How is your life pointing to God’s glory?  In what area is He asking you to step out and risk in bold brave obedience?  The disciples followed Jesus.  How will you follow Him today?

Truth to Come Alive:  I have a calling for your life.  I would love for you to follow me with your whole heart.  Leaving everything like the disciples to come after me.  I have things prepared for you in advance .  I know the plans I have for you (Jeremiah 29:11)
