On cleaning out the junk in our trunk

Guys–
It’s been a pretty epic day for me.

For those of you that know me I am not known to be well.. um.. organized.
There are so many things I would rather spend my time doing.
If you have ever seen my car.. you know that it is spotless  never clean.  But I always feel quite confident I could survive in a blizzard.

Do you ever have those tasks you put off because you do not feel them important or necessary– or you know it is necessary but you just cannot bring up the muster to want to do it.
Cleaning the junk out of my trunk– Toby the Taurus’s trunk to be exact– is one of those things for me.
So I have not done it.. in well.. um.. years.

Maybe today it was because the air conditioning in my house is not working and my brain fried while I was here.
But I wanted an ice cold frozen homemade smoothie.  But I didn’t want to make it in the big ol’ blender because that’s to much trouble to clean/get out.  I remembered my old small one cup smoothie maker.  And I remembered that somewhere in my trunk was the blender cup.

Insert fear here.
So first step– I had nothing to make smoothie with. So I went to the store.
Again call it the heat has fried my brain.. but I decided to clean out the refrigerator when I put the smoothie stuff I bought in.  YUP.. I CLEANED OUT TOSSED OUT  old food and WASHED DOWN the fridge.  That in itself– epic.
Then I realized I had to get the smoothie cup out of the trunk.  So I did it. I CLEANED OUT THE TRUNK.

I am not vulnerable enough to share a before picture with you.  But I will bare my soul and share my trunk junk a little with you.

Lol.. that’s only half of it.   You can judge me in your heart if you want.

This caption should read the coffee cup graveyard.

Also found:  A parrot, tiki hut, grass skirt (did I go to Hawaii and forget?), several moldy pumpkins from halloween, a few cures for cancer, half of the clothes I wondered what had happened to, 7,000 coffee cups, many shoes that have lots their “sole mates”, unidentifiable things, and a package of graham crackers I am pretty sure you do not want at your next bonfire.  Oh yeah– and a full place setting and thing of silverware.
Junk.. in .. my.. trunk…

It got me thinking.  The reason I went to cleaning is I was looking for something.  I had put off the cleaning because it was to big a task, something I could ignore, pretend I didn’t need to open the trunk and do. But the trunk was not doing me any good except storing junk.

Guys.. don’t we let our hearts do that?  There are areas in our hearts, our thoughts, our emotions we simply do not want to clean out.  We don’t want to touch them. We don’t open them.  We pretend they are fine, when really they are not doing us any good except storing junk.

Insecurities do that in our heart.. they are junk that simply takes up space– and can even begin to stink us up.
I am not as good as _____ so I just wont like her and I just wont try.
    I am a failure
   God’s love isn’t enough
    I must be perfect
At least I am not as bad as ______

This is just an example of some of the junk that can be in our hearts.

But what if we go looking for something.
Freedom
Gal 5:1 For FREEDOM Christ has set us free.

What if we let God push the button of our hearts and release the lid.. look inside, remove the junk and make room for– MORE of Him.  Space for Him to store up His treasures– like the Fruits of the Spirit?

Psalms 51:10 Create in me a clean heart oh God.
