Safe or secure.. risk or regret

If all your friends jumped off a bridge would you?  I can genuinely say I have watched several of my friends jump off a bridge– a very tall bridge.. in fact.
a bridge
over
a
gorge
a deep gorge
in Nepal
Tied to only a bungee chord.

Yup.. I watched lots of my friends that New Years in Nepal do that to usher in the New Year.

key word..
Watched.

I almost peed in my pants just walking over the bridge to get to the other side.
But I sure did enjoy watching them “take the plunge”

This weeks chapter in the incredible book You were Made for a God-sized Dream is the Chapter called Why your Dream is Worth it.  It is an exciting chapter. My favorite quote

p 161 You are not someone who settles for safety.
You dear reader, are a Joshua, or a Caleb, standing on the edge of the promised Land, seeing all that is good and saying, Yes this is possible!  Then you take your steps of faith, fight the battles, and go the distance to take possession of all God has for you.
Spend your life fully alive.

I want to spend my life like that.  Fully alive. .. full of joy.. passion.. living out boldly what God has called me to do. In the big steps and the little steps of obedience.. fully alive ( i love the above picture because it was on my way to go speak at a Bloom conference.  These precious friends had just done my hair and I was excited to go do what both terrifies me and thrills my soul to the core, share God’s word).
What keeps us from that sometimes?
I think longing for safety– fear of the unknown, the risk of the JUMP
Afraid to risk so full of regret.
Now let me pause for a moment and assure you.. I really have no regrets that I did not jump off that bridge. Not my type of adventure.
But I would have been full of regret if in my desire to feel safe and secure I had not answered God’s call to go to Nepal.
So this chapter reminds me.. that I don’t have to live a life of safety because I have SECURITY in Christ.
Now.. I may not be bungee jumping, but I want to jump head first into every day of adventure the Lord has planned for me (even when sometimes the enemy whispers just stay in bed with the covers over your head!)

Proverbs 29:25 Fear of man proves a snare, but whoever trusts in the Lord is kept SAFE.
Glory.. now that steps on my toes. So often I worry way more about what others think of me (when they are probably not thinking at all) so I stay where I feel safe!
if I trust in the Lord..  I can risk for HIM, WITH HIM.. instead of living in regret.

Heart work:  What is one thing you regret you didn’t do last week.  How about asking God to give you the courage to do it this week.

Do a word study in your Bible on the word safe.  What does that Lord have to say about safety.

Journal about an adventure you have taken with the Lord that may have scared you silly but you are so glad that you JUMPED.

I love for us to dialogue. Would you share how have you found security in Christ?

  1. I think my biggest regrets recently is getting too busy and not taking time to do what I love – write! I need to get back to blogging if I want my dream to grow!! 🙂
