Goals are for the non list makers also W

Friends-
You’ve come to know me better over these blog posts…

you know

That this makes me break out in hives.
And if I did make a to-do list I would totally forget where I put it.  Or it would have more doodles on it then tasks.
or possibly coffee stains
( you can tell the most popular pages in my Bible based on the coffee stains)
So frankly fellow God sized dreamer (if you are joining us for this study we are on Chapter four of the awesome book by Holley Gerth God Sized Dreams.  I pray God is teaching you as much as He is teaching me on this journey.
I apologize I am just now posting this week.  One of those weeks where I could not get it together.  Surely you have weeks like that. (if not just nod your head like you do so I can at least feel better about myself)  (by the way.. I realize I use a lot of parenthesis in writing.. they just make me happy.  Feels like you can say more in a parenthesis)
So I was a little nervous about Chapter 4.. the What Comes Next Section of this book.  I pictured goal charts and lists.  I hated that section of charting as a counseling where you had to write the clients goals and steps you were taking to therapeutically intervene. I always was thinking wish I could just draw pictures and doodle it all over the paper instead.
But as Holley points out.. one of the most challenging  points of pursuing a God sized dream is knowing what to do next. And to do that you have to have goals.
It brings to mind this verse.
Habakkuk 2:2 Write the vision and make it plain
So first step what are the God sized dreams you feel God stirring in you.
Then figure out what God has for you as you get to your destination
and realizing alot of it is the journey. It’s the pursuit and experience of God on the journey.
Once I had the goal of running a marathon.
So part of that was the journey of training (not that i was always the best of it)
It was the journey that trained me. But it was the pursuit of the medal and the putting the 26.2 mile sticker on the back of my car that kept me running to finish the race.
I love love when people ask me about this sticker.  Even though those that won the marathon had already finished, gotten their medal, flown back home to their african home country and had a celebration meal with their family by the time I limped across… the.. finish.. line…
I had accomplished my dream!
I was so freed by what Holley said on page 73:  ”  I have to admit this is tricky for me because I am not much of a specific goal setter.  The good news is you don’t always need a 10 point plan for everything you do.  We are all wired differently.  If you get a thrill writing out detailed lists then go for it. But if you are more of a free spirited person (insert yes I am jenn speaking here)  who needs wide boundaries then go for it to. ”

I love how God made us differently. We will all set goals differently. We will all strategize differently.  But the one thing we all need to remember. .. is Go for it..
Don’t quit…
The finish line of hearing God say you ran your God sized dream race well!  now that’s success.
Doesn’t matter if it takes you longer then you imagined (umm.. 7 hours to run a marathon.. that’s a whole day practically )
It doesn’t matter if it takes you along paths you would have never guessed (plus a few trips to the port-o-poddy)
but as Holley says on page 83 , ”  If your dream is going to come into being, it’s going to take hard work, perseverance, and leaps of faith with Jesus that you never thought you would complete.

But it’s the leaps of faith WITH JESUS that are the point of God sized dreams.  Whether your dream is to be a stay at home mom and it doesn’t seem possible. Or to be promoted.. or to go back to school.. or to start a  new job.. or to teach a Bible study.. or to get married..  or to write a book.. or to sing a solo.. or to learn another language.. the list could go on and go..
With Jesus.. those leaps take you right into knowing and pursuing Him.. (and guess what He knows and pursued you dreamer!)
The last step in this chapter is to celebrate.  Stay tuned tomorrow for a what makes you come alive/how do you celebrate post.  Please stop by again and link up your blog for our coming alive party. Would love you have you join us.
Until then:  heartwork:
1)  Write the vision make it plain.  However makes you come alive. I love to write in all different directions on a paper… draw doodles.. collage.. make a to-do list.. however.. I want you to turn this into an intimate time of worship with you and Jesus. What is your God sized dream vision.
2)  How are you drawing near to Jesus in these leaps of faith. What was the last leap of faith you took into Jesus’s arms.. and how did His arms catch you?
3) What goals are driving you that are not God’s goals for you?
4)  Celebrate.  What steps have you already taken for you God-sized dream?
5)  Read Habakkuk 2.  what parts of your vision are you having to wait for?  What does waiting look like for you?  Look of verses in the Bible to do with waiting.

GO.. FOR.. IT…

Now share some comment love.. how do you hear God saying God for it in your own life?

  1. I think God opens doors and some doors have been opened through this dreaming process…others maybe have a "wait" sign on them and I have become ok with that. While I like answers on a fast and easy time line….I am finding that I don't grow well when I am always given the easy way. I am thick skulled and it takes me longer to learn and appreciate God's goodness! 😉
