Divine Design
Good Monday afternoon friends-
I am writing this post from the chemo room where my Dad takes daily chemo 5 days a week. Seems like a weird place to write about God sized dreams. But I love how God can breathe life into dreams, even here. So I am sipping my coffee here with my Dad. Why don’t you join us?
Welcome to week two of our study through the God sized dreams book by Holley Gerth. Love love love taking this journey with you dreamers. And if you just happened to stop by, make yourself at home and dream with us!
So much to chose from this week in Chapter two. So many awesome quotes. But the things God whispered to me to remind you, to whisper to your heart, is based on Psalms 139.
By the way I don’t even know the person who has this etsy shop for that picture, it just came up on google images. but i liked her stuff.. so if you click here it leads you to her shop!
See one of the main things that stuck out to me in Chapter two is how God is such a cool designer. He designed the dreams He has for us to go with our specific skill sets and our specific strengths.
We are created so uniquely.
And God created you uniquely for your God sized dreams!
I think that’s why Satan longs for us to fall into the comparison trap, the my dreams aren’t enough or I am not enough to dream– or this is to scary, I can’t do it, or I don’t even have dreams or longings.
You know what I think is hilarious about God
He designed me and a twin sister of me that has my exact DNA
We are so alike (lean in close for this humiliating secret) that once, in high school I was on a trip with my church youth group at the TN aquarium. We were in separate groups and I saw her and started asking her if she was having fun. After repeatedly receiving no answer, I gently hit her on the arm. I then realized I was TALKING TO MYSELF , in a mirror, in front of everyone!
This is what’s funny about us, exact DNA, but God designed us with different skills and strengths, and dreams and callings.
She hates the dark, doesn’t like to go places she doesn’t know, kindof likes life to be routine and scheduled.
She would break out in hives to live the crazy life I have lived.
I think she is the MOST amazing mom in the world– basically like a camp counselor all the time for her kiddos. She is the coolest. And when she was not a stay at home mom God used her to design a puppet show program to go into schools and teach kids about safe and unsafe touches.
This would make me break out into hives. She now has an awesome ministry at church leading the nursery. She also is the best youth ministers wife!
Numbers, excel sheets, schedules, bookkeeping, office work, sitting at a desk 9 to 5: HIVES
Encouraging others, speaking to thousands, writing, traveling the world (even when I have no idea where I am going and I am all by myself): THRIVE
You are fearfully and wonderfully made.
Page 33, ” You and YOUR God sized dream are perfectly paired by the one who created you BOTH’!”
p 35: ” Our experiences allow us to apply our strengths and skills. They also share us more about what we are called not to do”.
One of the most freeing steps towards your God sized dreams , towards mine, can be instead of criticizing what you are not as good at, focusing on that,
Celebrate what you are NOT called to do .
Now we have to be willing to grow in areas,
But celebrating who you are
Your God sized dreams are unique to who you are
because of WHOSE you are.
Now for those of you joining who are doing the Bible study for the week: Here is your “heartwork”. Remember do it at your own pace, savoring what God speaks to you!:
— Read Luke Chapter 5: 1-11 Jesus called the disciples to join Him in His God sized dreams for them. Close your eyes and imagine what that moment was like. Now journal through where you are in life. What is your daily life like? What do you “do” for a living? What would it be like for Jesus to come into your everyday and call you? What do you think He would call you to? Ask Him! see what He says
— Ok I want you to step out there. I really want you to do the find your strengths and the find your skills part on page 35. If you really get bold, step out there and ask a friend to. And I want you to write a prayer of thanksgiving for those things God has placed in you. For example: God thank you that you made me spontaneous and adventurous. Thank you for gifting me with the ability to speak… you get the picture
— Write these words: Lord I am passionate about: and just free write for a while. See what comes out. You may be surprised!
— Read the parable of the Talents Matthew 25:14-30 Page 43 of the book states this ” What’s more dangerous is doing nothing at all, as the third servant who buries his talents quickly learned upon the masters return”. What is a dream you may have buried out of fear that it is to small, or to big?
— How have you seen God coming through in ways you would have never imagined? Now after thinking on that think about how you can view the scary steps obedience sometimes calls us to. Read Genesis 21. God came through for the Godsized dream of having a child in ways they could have never imagined. I wonder how much that impacted Abraham’s ability to then in Genesis 22 be willing to sacrifice Issac, His God-sized dream?
By the way: if you are getting excited about your God sized dreams but don’t know where to start, I would love love love to be your cheerleader and offer e-coaching for you. As a counselor who has a Masters Degree in counseling and a specialization in Spiritual direction,
It is part of my God sized dream to cheerlead you on into yours.
