Our Miracle Update

Hello dear friends:  If you are coming here from my facebook page for an update on Todd and Hope and Michelle and Alex Humbert.. would you mind just hanging tight for one second while I catch my normal blog readers up to speed since I have not had time to update since my last update.

How amazing that my last blog post was on how God is our refuge.  In that post I talked about how I had dreams about my family dying.. and how that morning I woke up and reminded myself no matter what, God is my refuge. Our shelter.  I quoted Psalms 57:1 and I want to again..
Psalms 57:1 Be merciful to me, O God, be merciful to me! For my soul trusts in you, and in the shadow of your wings I will make my refuge, until these calamities have passed.
Psalms 34:9 O taste and see that the Lord our God is good! Blessed is the woman who trusts and takes refuge  in Him!

That was March 23.  Little did I know March 28th I would receive a phone call at 10:49 pm March 28th from my pastors wife telling me my sister, her husband Todd, my 6month old nice, my 4 year old nephew and a youth from our church had been in a car accident… that I needed to get to the hospital right away.

Refuge. God is my refuge and strength.. ever present help in trouble.
My refuge held me as I rode the 45 minutes to get to the hospital. My sister called me from the ambulance on the way. She could not say much except that Todd was injured badly and hope… while on the phone with her they upgraded the ambulance to emergency status.

Refuge.. God is my refuge.

I walked into the children’s ER into what looked like a crime scene. Those pictures will be forever etched in my mind and heart. My sister covered in blood and deer fur. See a 150 pound deer had been hit by another car, propelled through the air and hit my sis’s mini-van, hitting Todd first, my niece next, then landing in Michelle’s lap in the very back.   When I arrived my nephew was on a backboard, I thought for sure my niece was dead because of her color and she wasn’t moving, and Todd was in the adult side in trauma ER.

God is our refuge and strength.

The next few days were a blur with words like ventilator, trauma, extensive facial surgury, my niece having a brain bleed… whew.
ok.. so now for an update for those waiting:

Michelle has asked me to keep you updated as it is to exhausting for her right now (and I have the inside scoop because I am staying with Michelle and Todd).
Hope and Todd were discharged from hospital last night .. GLORY

It was such a joy when little Alex got there and they were all able to reunite.

Would you please pray hard for little Alex’s emotional healing. He is talking a great deal about the accident.  He remembers everything. He was strapped on a backboard and placed in the same ambulance as his daddy to get there as fast as he can. This is a lot for a precious little 4 year old heart.  He thought His daddy was dead, as did Michelle.  Please pray for His emotional healing.

Update on our princess baby hope:  She went to the pediatrician today.  Can I just say a shoutout to Dr. May for Highland Pediatrics. When he heard about Hope he came to the hospital everyday on a holiday weekend to check on her.  Today with chillbumps on his arms and tears in his eyes, He told Michelle what we all know it is only a miracle that she survived.

We finally got the official term about what is going on with her, why she has not been eating, screaming in pain ect. She did have a brain bleed, but the other problem she is recovering from is effects of a subdural hemotoma which is a closed head injury where your brain moves forward with force and slams into your skull.

Take that in.. wow.. that’s a lot of a little 6 month old body.

but Glory to God doc said after a few months she should have a FULL recovery!

God is our refuge and strength!

update on Todd:  I am pretty sure Him and my Dad are the closest people to Jesus I know. He is in soo much pain (of course)… but His biggest worry is he wants to take care of everyone else.  This is Him today trying to read His bible.  He can barely only open one eye… but He wanted to read His Bible next to His little Hope.   Please pray for His pain.. it is very great and hard to keep under control.  If you didn’t know two days ago he had surgery in which they :  had to reconstruct his eye socket as His whole eye socket was blown (the nurse said she had never seen anything like it) , His jaw is wired together, and many other things had to be fixed in his jaw, roof of mouth and cheeks.  Also his thumbs are both dislocated and will probably require surgery.

update on michelle:   Honestly it was an emotional day for us all as the weight of what God did/spared her/them from settled in. Michelle drove today for first time and just pray as it is very hard to pass the spot where this all happened, and to not fear. Pray for strength for her.

We are so grateful that we do not have to live in fear due to a God who is our refuge!

update on my dad:

In case you didn’t know also February 18th my dad was transported to Erlanger by ambulance and he survived miracle of two bi-lateral blood clots that were baseball sized passing through his heart and blocking His lungs. That same week He was diagnosed with a very rare form of aggressive leukemia.  That night he had a simple surgery and during that procedure He had a grand mal seizure they thought a massive stroke. They told us he would not make it through the night and if he did he would be a vegetable.
But God is our refuge and strength.
He survived and had a 30 plus hospital stay (everyone at erlanger knows our family).  He began a very aggressive treatment of chemo pills and arsnic drip.  He has had a two week break during all this with our family– but He starts chemo pills back tomorrow… then in mid april starts having to return to hospital daily for arsnic drip.
But God is our refuge and strength.
We cannot thank you enough for your prayers and support, ALL that you .. the beautiful body of Christ have done.
Also many have asked about financially supporting michelle and todd.
Our church/the church todd is on staff with has set up an account at Northwest GA bank.  All you have to do is go to any Northwest GA bank and say you are wanting to put money in the Humbert family/Shelter church account.
For now we are requesting NO visitors.  Todd needs a few days to rest and they need to return to semi-normal family life.  Todds jaw is wired shut so he can’t talk well and he is so awesome that he wants to talk to people 🙂  We will let you know when visitors are ok!
Thank you thank you thank you for everything.
And no matter what you face.. remember God is your refuge, your EVER present strength in times of trouble.!
Also i will keep updating this page for the family
