… unsuccessful attempts at being sneaky…

I am so not good at being sneaky.

Incognito would not describe me.  Actually to be honest I wasn’t even sure what that word really meant so I googled it just now.. it means having a false identity.  I thought it meant more like being sneaky.  oh well. it still sounds cool…

So this weekend I had an INCREDIBLE weekend serving God on a chrysalis retreat for teenagers. Those were some of the coolest teenagers ever.  Watching God break chains upon chains off them by the power of His word and His love– AMAZING.. I just shout thinking about it.  I especially loved my table of 15 and 16 year old girls.  Girls pursuing God with all their young hearts knew how… it was beautiful.

And might I add:  often people expect heaven to be boring, because they think worshipping God and studying all about Him is boring.  It’s not.. EVER.. God is alive.. not dead.. and He is soo fun. Me and those girls (and well everyone else there) had such a blast laughing together until we couldn’t breathe and tears would roll down our faces.  Tears from laughter, and tears from God’s healing. it’s beautiful! GOD IS NOT DEAD!

anyways.. that was not what I was going to write about.
Back to being sneaky.

So there was a precious powerful woman of faith that i look up to soo much on this weekend Kay McDaniel.   A powerhouse of the Lord.
She came up to me on Saturday afternoon after a conversation we had the day before about some steps of faith I am taking and she said, ” Jenn I wrote  you a card with words straight from my heart.  You will be getting it on sunday . ”

(by the way the image of those cards are cards from Holley Gerth available at Dayspring.com.  I just loved them!)

I thought to myself:  A card from this powerful woman of faith Kay McDaniel with words of life in it.  Um.. I don’t want to wait until Sunday.

I am not good at waiting always.
So I devised a sneaky plan.  (hahah.. not really sneaky i guess but that sounds so much more dramatic)

I knew where they kept the packets where people could write encouraging cards.
So That night I snuck in there (that was after I snuck into the food room and had cheez-its at 3 am haha) and grabbed the card)
Didn’t want to wait until Sunday.
And it was awesome. so encouraging and I loved it.

I tucked it away into my bag and my heart.

Then guess what the next afternoon Kay came up to me and said Jenn did you happen to get that card.
I was paralyzed
Um.. how did she know hahah
What to do– lie and say um.. no card.. what card.. or admit .. um.. yes I couldn’t wait.

So with a sheepish grin I said um.. well.. yes I did.
She held her head back and laughed and laughed.. so did I
I had been caught.
I told her I couldn’t wait to read it..

We could not stop laughing.
She said well Jenn God had given me a ps for you so I went back to get the card and couldn’t find it anywhere.. so i was hoping you had it.

Haha.. so I gave the card back to her, and she wrote the ps.  Then she handed it back to me.. instead of making me .. um.. wait.. this time.. hahah

Such a funny moment.
Caught being sneaky.. sneaking to get some encouragement!

But the Lord reminded me of something in that.

I should be sneaking throughout the day to read encouraging words.. HIS words…
He has written me a living active word.. breathed by the Same God who breathed out the stars.

Hebrews 4:12:  The word of God is living and active

So why don’t we sneak off throughout our day to read this.  On your lunch break.. sneak away with the Lord.
When you get up…when you walk on the treadmill. in the car rider line waiting to pick up your kids..

Getting so excited about it that we don’t want to wait until Sunday like I didn’t wait until Sunday to read that card!

  1. Nobody ever said you were good at being sneaky especially your Mother. 🙂 I loved that post! It made me laugh. Love you! You always got caught you just blamed it on your poor "little" sister you had talked into doing whatever.:)

  2. Girl!! I Laughed so hard when I just read this!! and then I found myself being moved by the concept of not waiting until sunday to recieve/get words of life! What if we were so excited to recieve words of life that every moment we couldn't wait to drink it in? What if we didn't just wait until Wed. and Sun. to be the Hands and Feet of Christ to those around us, and instead we were that everyday! Thank you for always being so humble and sharing your stories of encouragement, struggle, and reminding us all of the extreme love of Christ! Love you! 🙂

  3. I was thinking of you yesterday and then I hopped over here…and, oh, did this post put a smile on my face. I love you, friend! Thank you for the encouragement to spend more time each day "sneaking" away to spend some time with Him. Definitely something I need to do more of…and now it's a goal for me.

Blessings, sweet friend! Hope you are doing well! 🙂
