Coming Alive at Christmas Day 3: God of details
God is a God of details
I hate the word detail. I am a big picture kind of girl. I get excited about big visions… I always have a big idea or two running around my head.
I may or may not have gotten that from my Dad. He is known to have five businesses AT LEAST going out of our house at once.
I remember a time as a child when we were trained to answer the “business” line at our house—which was actually the telephone in the extra bedroom like this. Thank you for calling Hand enterprises. Press 1 if you are interested in Victory Cues, having a pool cue made. Press 2 if you need to speak to our representative about your computer needs. Press 3 if you want to speak to Mike about having professional billiard lessons press 4 if you would like to speak with a representative about Hand AV studies press 5 if you have forgotten all the options and have no idea why you are calling (and usually I would end up giggling in that process as you can imagine)
This is only a SLIGHT exaggeration. My Dad is a big picture thinker—always excited about one thing or another and so am I.
I am not so great at the details. I just started using a planner (reluctantly) for the first time this year. You would know how reluctantly if you knew that I picked the planner out, not based on its functionality, but based on that fact of which one was the cutest and most inspiring to want to write in!
I may not be great at details, but I realize they are important. You need the details to fall into place if you want to see the vision you have accomplished. For that you need detailed people. And as I was meditating on the Christmas story this year, I was reminded how the Christmas story is a story of details. Little things that had to fall into place to make the BIG picture plan work out. And by BIG picture.. a plan that was designed before the beginning of time to accomplish redemption and victory for the end of time. Now that is a BIG picture.
See part of the Big picture of redemption through Jesus Christ involved a detail . Micah 5:2 says , “But as for you Bethlehem, to little to be among the clans of Judah, from you One will go forth for me to be ruler in Israel. His goings forth are from long ago, from the days of eternity.
Detail: Jesus to be born in Bethlehem.
Details God worked out to make that happen: (not sure Mary probably appreciated those details or not) . A census was declared meaning Joseph had to leave Nazareth and go to Bethlehem.
A slight detail but a BIG one that God worked out.
The Christmas story is a story of God driven, God designed, God woven details into God’s driven, God’s design, Gods woven ultimate plan of redemption.
So Come alive at Christmas today when you remember that the same God who detailed the Christmas story is detailing your life.
Rest in that. Trust in that. Lay your details at the feet of the one who knows the bigger story.
Reflection: Read Psalms 37:5. How does that impact you in light of trusting God with your details.
Read Ephesians 3:20 What are you looking for God to do that is exceedingly abundantly above whatever you could ask , think or imagine? Will you trust Him with the details?
Jenn, this is such a creative way to connect the detail-making of our lives and the way God orchestrated the details of Christ's birth…every jot and tittle of it.
Great Scriptures and questions!
This really blessed me Jenn! This post is clearly God inspired.
