Greater Things

Linking with the lovely Melissa Taylor’s Online Bible study group at www.melissataylor.org who is leading an online Bible study on this book…..

I highly recommend this book. I started reading it several months ago when it first came out. It came at a perfect exciting time of ministry in my life as I dream about the things God has for me.  Well my friend Melissa Taylor is leading this in her online Bible study and you should join if you can!  She is an example to me of how God took her small vision and dream of doing an online Bible study, ignited it and did BIG things with now thousands and thousands of woman being impacted.

Anyways.. I digress!

This weeks memory verse:  John 14:12 Truly I say to you, He who believes in Me, the works that I do, shall He do also, and greater works then these shall He do, because I go to the Father.

Wow. Those are powerful words. Hard to get one’s mind around.
Greater works then what Jesus did.
I mean.. He .. um.. raised Lazarus from the dead.
He healed blind people, fed thousands with a few fish, caused the lame to walk again
He .. raised HIMSELF from the dead after 3 long dark days.

We’re talking some pretty powerful works Jesus did.
And it sounds like when you read John 14:12 He has some pretty exciting things planned for me to join Him in!
And the amazing part about it.. He sends His Holy Spirit to do it through me.  Because if you keep reading in John 14 that is what He promises!  He promises the REASON we can do GREAT things is John 14:!6 and I will ask the Father and He will give you another HELPER and He will be with you forever.

GLORY! (sorry had to insert that shout.. and yes people looked at me funny in Panera

Let me let you in on the thing I struggle with … ( do you care if I whisper it to you?)  I think I can do those greater things on my own sometimes. I think I can come up with my great plans and they will make me GREATER. Like maybe they will make God notice me more or love me more.  Or that I have a greater idea then God does.
Maybe you don’t ever think those things.. but I .. um.. occasionally do.
In fact while raising support to be a missionary in Nepal I became prideful and thought I had to be GREATEST missionary that ever lived

After a few months there went to stay in a village.  I looked the part of a missionary (see above picture) but somehow didn’t feel GREAT.  Didn’t GREATLY love these people like I thought so how could God greatly love me?  I remember falling facedown on a dirt floor and crying out to God.
R U disappointed in me? I am not feeling like such a GREAT missionary for you.
God said

Jenn I don’t NEED YOU I want you
Whew. Let that sink in. God doesn’t need me to do GREATER things for Him.  But He wants me to be apart of His GREAT things.
He .. Wants… me…
The God who spoke the starts into being
Wants me
Wow..
Now that’s GREAT.
And that leads me to dream BIG. To ask God to take my small visions and make them GREATER for His glory!
How about you?
Also stay tuned:
Tomorrow starts 25 days to coming alive at Christmas posts! Wahoo!
