In my heart I am an olympic athlete
I don’t have a TV at my house so I unfortunately have not been able to watch a great deal of the olympics, except when I bum a stay at a friends house. I did get to watch the parade of nations at my dear friend Shawna’s house.. well.. watch may be a loose term. We both fell asleep. I watched really only Nepal (go NEPAL) and barely woke up to see the USA come through also.
Last night I was super excited to settle in and watch some olympics at my sis’s house after she put the boys to bed. We were all settled with our butterfinger milkshakes from sonic (haha I know how to make a pregnant twin sister very happy) when we got a phone call that there was a tornado headed our way and a tornado cloud spotted right over Apison where we were. You have to understand that last year less then 100 ft from my sisters house a tornado hit destroying the town of apison, 8 people dying within a mile of her house. So we took it seriously.
I bet you wish you could have been a fly on the wall in that bathroom where we took shelter. That’s all you could have been to fit actually. This is a half bath– a there is really only room for one to sit on the toilet and their knees touch the sink kind of bath. Here we were.. my 8 month very pregnant sis, her 4 year old, 5 year old foster son (who had surgery that day, was on pain meds and in a giant cast), me , the toilet and some couch cushions. Entertaining to say the least.
I digress—
Anyways– I love to watch the olympics, and I don’t know about you but in my heart I am an olympian. Granted I am not very good at sports really. Recently I have been playing sand volleyball and loving it– but I am pretty sure they wont be recruiting me for the olympic team anytime soon. I also love badmition but they have not discovered my skill yet.
But when I watch sometimes I feel like I am an athlete to. I feel like I put in the effort with them. When they win I feel like I win…. even if i have not idea what water polo even is.. I just won the gold!
Does anybody else do that to?
I wonder how often we do that with the Christian walk. We see someone that seems to be really doing well at the Christian thing. Their walk with Jesus looks good. So we watch them… we think whew.. they have it together- they got the GOLD star– they have the gifts and the talents I don’t.. they have people watching, they have admiration, they are WINNING at their walk. so I am just going to watch.. Sometimes we mistake that for our own walk with Christ.
But the truth is Watching is not the same as doing.
Just watching the olympics doesn’t mean I get the privilege of hearing the coach whisper with pride in my ear– GREAT job.. you did it.. all the training paid off– you WIN.. you trained for your event and you win
I don’t just want to watch the Christian life either. I don’t want to miss someday the joy of “our coach” God the father whispering– you did it.. all your training paid off — you WIN!
I want to hear my coach’s whisper daily– even if it means discipline, hard work and training…
I want to be an active Jesus girl– known for being on the Jesus team– one the commentators around are talking about.
I don’t just want to watch.
In the words of Nike
I want to Just do it!
How about you!
Great Writing Jenn! Keep writing! Aren't you glad , that Christ won on our behalf?! Enjoyed this post very much!
