Snapshots of heaven
I have experienced so many snapshots of heaven in these past few weeks.. I just have to share a few from the past few days with you. Thank you so much for praying for my last days in nepal. This have been my most meaningful, wonderful special days in the past two years.. thought I tell you I may not be able to fit through the airplane door with all of the food that’s been stuffed down me lately. I would be ok if you never fed me rice or lentils again–well at least for a while!
I cannot really find the words to express the snapshots of heaven I have experienced.. but I thought I would give you a little play by play of my week
First of all MONDAY HUGE HUGE Praise dancing praise news: My didi maya (who is my best friend here) and i spent the day just hanging out together. She taught me how to make good dhal bhat for lunch (hers is the best so i wanted to learn from the master) AS we were cooking she told me her cousin sister Rhada had accepted Christ!! wahoo. This is a girl I told you about a while back. She has been attending my Bible study for months and then started coming to church. We have prayed for her so often. On SUnday night after our ladies conference Maya led Rhada to accept the Lord. HOW AWESOME IS THAT! The amazing thing is I had been praying and believing God to see one person accept Christ before I left.. and well His timing .. the week before I left! Monday night I went to maya’s house and we had dinner and momo making party with her family.. it was such a precious experience because Rhada’s face was so different. She was just glowing with JESUS! Maya’s mom was also there. She is the CUTEST old lady in her late 70’s but due to the hard life of nepal she looks about 120. I can barely understand her because she has no teeth but she just kept rubbing my head and tears pouring out of her face saying thank you for what you have done for my daughter. Talk about heart blessing right there. We had a fabulous time of praise and prayer.. and of course FOOD!
Tuesday: went and had my last 2 hour massage at the christian massage therapy place (sad :-() And the fun thing is the massage therapist has gotten to know me so well she invited me over to her house that evening for dinner after the massage. She is a precious woman of faith. She is a single mom to 2 girls. They were so excited to meet me. I went to her house and had an incredible time. It made me feel so special because she said she had never invited a foreigner to her house before because she was shy, but I her adopted daughter she wanted to have in her home 🙂
Wednesday: Was the most precious and blessed night of my entire time in nepal. The ladies Bible study I have been teaching for the past 2 years ( you have heard much about it) suprised me with a suprise Momo (everything involved eating) party. They had spent hours preparing it for me. They were so precious. Every woman that has ever come to Bible study came. They worked so hard on this party. They sang all of my favorite songs. Then they all went around the room and shared how I had blessed them and what they had learned through Bible study. Talk about a humbling little piece of heaven. The exciting part was it was all in nepalee and God gave me the gift of understanding every word. They said such precious things and I was amazed at the things they remembered about Bible study, things I never was sure they were understanding. They even remembered the first thing I taught on, which I frankly did not 🙂 Their comments were so specific and it was such a blessing to me. At the end we laughed until we could not anymore when one of them imitaded my laugh, and another how I always scratch my nose ( they apparently observed my bad habit and this was my trademark without even knowing it). Then they all prayed the sweetest prayers for me. I got so choked up. Then they presented me with an awesome gift of a scrapbook they had made of different times in Bible study over the years! Such a snapshot of heaven
Thursday was spent at 4 different nepalese homes eating eating and eating
Friday my fellowship of foreign friends spent the day with me. We had a great blessed time swimming and eating.. well that’s been a theme huh
Then saturday another HUGE snapshot of heaven. My last nepalese church services was so special. One of my favorite parts was when Sachi, a little 4 year old girl who is a daughter of a dear friend of mine.. got up and sang jesu rhombro cha (God is so good) . In the begining she said this is for you jenn auntie. At the end in the cutest voice she said I love you Jenn auntie. Then she proceeded to scratch and rub her nose Jenn style.. everyone laughed.. including me 🙂
After the service shyam presented me with a very nice nepalese plaque and then my friend nista spoke about how I had blessed her, one of the Bible college girls representing the Bible college and then another lady from church. Then I got to get up there and speak. It was a precious moment as I was able to share my heart with the church– all in nepalee– totally unprepared. How great is our God. 2 years ago I did not speak that language at all. The exciting part is my Hindu language teacher came (remember good ol’ suman I always talked about) . I was able to thank Him for His help. He came up to me after with tears and handed me a bouquet of flowers and said I am so proud of you. It was such a tender moment– like I was hearing it from my own grandfather. Then I threw the church a big potluck feast… chicken (no goat at this feast if I was going to be in charge) and of course HUGE pots of dhal bhat. It was so much fun. To me it felt a little bit like I think the marriage supper of the lamb will be. Everyone fellowwshipping and me getting to celebrate relationships with them and relationships with Jesus. Such a great moment
Tonight we are about to have our last house fellowship with my foreign friends. Pray it will be a special time of worship together
Thanks for reading this long post. It was really more processing the bits of heaven for me. Celebrate with me wont you.
In 2 days (bholi parsy in nepalese) I am leaving.. CRAZY
That was awesome! I felt like I was right there watching you enjoying all of that. You are such a great writer! Isn't our God great that He would allow you to see how much you had touched people before you leave there. We can't wait for you to get home! We are so proud of you and all that you have allowed God to do through you! We love you so much and will be there on Wednesday with a BIG hug for our precious girl.
I could just see that 4 year old little girl singing for Jenn and also rubbing her nose like Jenn. Wow! Humor is such a gift from God. I am so glad that you posted this and shared it with us. We can't wait for you to arrive this week! We love you and are praying for you to have a safe trip home. Love, Mama Ellis
