My sister is a rockstar!

Did you know that my sister Michelle Hand Humbert is a superstar. Well She is. I am so proud of her. She just ran the 1/2 marathon in Nashville today. 8 months after having a baby. Pretty stinking awesome if you ask me. I just went out and jumped on the trampoline for 30 minutes in honor of her supserstaredness.. not quite the same.. but somehow it felt like I was doing something. I know the neighbors love it when I go out there and jump. Free entertainment for me.

Oh yeah– back to my superstar my sis. She is awesome. She decided to go out and do this half marathon thing for the second time.. alone this time. And not only that but she raised 1,400 dollars for cancer research! And not only that.. did i mention that she was her team and training mentor and she had the highest retention rate on her team. I’m not going to brag.. but well.. i’m stinking proud.. that’s my twin sister.. the rockstar.
This morning after talking to her (as she was getting a foot massage by her husband) I read Hebrews 12:1 again. Therefore since we have such a great cloud of witnesses surronding us, let us also lay asie the sin which so easily entangles and let us run the race with endurance, the race that is set before us.

I remember when I ran the 1/2 marathon with michelle (3 years ago) it just felt so good to see the people cheering you on the sidelines. Sure they weren’t all there to celebrate me.. the non athlete, who had never before ran a real mile in her life and was talked into training for a 1/2 marathon by her crazy sister– but it sure felt like it. They might as well have been yelling GO JENN (Well there was a few times where my wonderful mom and dad, dressed in their bright yellow shirts) were yelling Go Jen (on a side note my sister said her awesome husband todd wore a shirt that said My wife is an athlete.. how cool is that! And Alex had a onsie that said 13.2 miles) anyways– When we crossed that finish line at got our medal it just felt so awesome. I felt so proud. I felt like everyone there in the stands, even if they did not know me were so proud, and I felt good. I ran the race. At least I felt good until I made the mistake of eating the krispy kreme donut they gave me.. then I did not feel so good!

Imagine what heaven will be like. When we cross that finish line of the race called life and Jesus himself hands us our medal.. or our crows I guess. Whew.. I don’t know about you but I have me some glory bumps!
But that verse makes sure to remind us to throw of EVERY encumberance ( the things that weight us down.. ) and sin that entangles us. I have been thinking about that today. What loads am I carrying that are keeping me slow in the race. Jesus said His burden is light. When I am trying to play God myself.. that keeps some weights in my pockets.. makes the race seem really slow. When I am walking in sin.. that means I am walking now running. I want to run this race well. How bout you?

  1. I’m so proud of her, too! She is such a stud muffin!

And I want you to know that while you were jumping on the trampoline to honor your sister, I was eating a piece of chocolate chip pound cake for the same purpose.

Next year I would LOVE for the three of us to run the half marathon together. What do you think?? I may need the two of you to carry me the last 10.2 miles, but you can handle that, right??

I love you both so much!

  2. You are just too sweet, and I love having such a big “fan” in Nepal.Wow your post summed up exactally what I was feeling and what God was speaking to me on Saturday. Glory. I have been asking God to sift me, and get rid of sin in my life. Wow. I want to get rid of any encumbrance that weights me down. Believe me, during the race, I did not want ANYTHING extra weighing me down. I could barely run with just me. But there was the random guy who added extra weight to his run. By kicking a soccer ball the whole time. Crazy. or the people who hula hooped through the 1/2 marathon. Also crazy!Sin sometimes seems fun/like a good idea, but I wonder if the soccer ball guy/hoola hoopers thought that was as much a fun idea at mile 10. Just a thought.!

  3. I was so proud of her, too! Both of you are such very special neices to me! Can't wait till next year when you are out there running with Michelle. Love you, girl!
Love, Aunt Laura & Josh who is sitting behind me.
