Wallowing day and more
Hey friends. Hope that you are having a fabulous week. I have heard for most of you in the south it has been some cold days lately! To bad no snow with that cold huh? So I have a lot to update you on. sorry about the lack of updates.. this whole lack of power thing and then I have been sick so I have been a little behind.
News #1: After much work I was able to get my visa renewed for the next six months ! God’s timing is always perfect huh. Again it happened seemingly just at the last minute– but in God’s timing there is never last minute, always just right on time! It was quite the process to get my visa.. but I was excited to get it. I still do not have it in hand officially, but it is at the immigration being prcoessed… so a little mahima shout for that. Although the day I finally got the letter from the language school that i needed i was not so sure I wanted it .. heheh.. I had to go through three riots, had to finally park my scooter and walk.. then my scooter broke down in traffic (that was a hilarous moment actually. All these men were staring to see what the white girl would do. So all I knew to do was open my gas tank, unscrew the top, then screw it back on .. and guess what. To their amazement and mine that worked!) and the guy at the school wanted me to pay a bride to have him do his job which he already gets paid to do. So that day, by the time I got the letter I did not have much excitement in me. But by the next day I was very excited.
News # 2: (not really news I guess, but I started out the numbering thing with news # 1 So I guess I should finish out this way!) I have been sick with the crud this week. Started with earache, sore throat kindof thing.. then after a few times out in the kathamandu lovely pollution became a I can’t stop coughing and it hurts to breathe kind of thing. So first step I medicated myself. Went to the pharmacy and got some antibiotics that had worked for me the past.. and some nepalee cough medicine. Which just so you know tastes 1) like you lick salt and then 2)immediatly follow that by drinking pure vanilla extract.. yummy huh!
So I took the antibiotics and stayed inside all weekend.. in my pj’s. Kathmandu pollution + the smell of trash in the air because the trash men are on strike again does not make for helping get better. So I stayed home. A little boring to be honest.. and It was hard because I got homesick. Hey I know I am 26 years old, but when sick the only thing I want is my mommy. Silly I know.. but it’s true. So it was kindof a boring (what do you do when you are sick and there is no power) kind of weekend..
News #3: I was still sick today and worried because it really was hurting to breathe. So I did the adult thing to do (suprise mom) and went to the doctor. God was soo good to me. I was not sure where to find a good doc honestly– the only place I knew to try was to go to the private clinic at the hospital. So I went and it was a gamble. But God provided me with such an awesome doctor. He is an irish missioP*nary Doctor. I was shocked at how much time He spent with me.. about 30 minutes to be honest. Docs here are not rushed like in america I guess.. I really left feeling like He had taken such good care of me. He explained to me the several diffirent things that could be wrong and what to do. He was so kind and well it was a great blessing from the Lord. So He told me it was a bronchial virus (which is why the antibiotics did not work) and it had irritated my lungs causing asthma like symptoms.. hence the hurting to breathe. He gave me an inhaler and some other medicine and said if I am not better in 2 weeks completely to come back. The good news: I’ve puffed that inhaler 3 times today as told , and drank the vanilla extract salt cough medicine and already my lungs feel 100 times better. He also recommended I stay inside for a couple more days to not be in the pollution hence
News #4 Leah and I declared today to be a wallowing day and it was wonderful. She is such a good roomate. She knew I was bored of being sick (especiall with no power). We had seen on a movie the other night about some girls that had a wallowing day (this was due to a breakup with a boyfriend, but hey) where they wore their pj’s and ate junk food. So Leah declared today to be a wallowing day for us. She went out and bought us pizza and various junk food (and we already had some m and m’s thanks to a care package from some friends of mine that live in thailand!) We had a wonderful time. It was such a GREAT day.. (I know wallow doesn’t sound good.. but it was!) We played Rummikub for the first 4 nours of our no power (in our pj’s of course, while eating junk food), then we put on face masks.. washed them off with boiling hot water… it’s the little pleasures), then we watched movies as long as our power would hold out. I appreciated so much her making this day fun for this sick girl.. who is already feeilng much better praise the Lord.
News #5: I have had some sweet times with Jesus during these tmes when I did not feel like going out. I just love how He is revealing himself to me in His word.
News # 6 and I’m done: I have drank more hot water/hot lemon with honey then in my life. Everytime a nepalee friend comes by and hears me coughing they insist. Nepalees are so funny about what they think makes you sick. Keep this in mind folks. My househelper is determined I got sick because eating sweet things can make you have a cold and I ate a cookie (hmm..) Also.. beware if you ever drink cold water in the winter.. defionatly causes sickness in their opinion. And my favorite. I was eating an orange and they flipped– apparently eating oranges in the winter makes you sick.. hmm.. who knew.. I always thought vitamin C was good for you.
and to my family that worries.. i promise I am feeling much better already– so don’t worry ! 🙂
I’m glad you went to the doctor. I was worried about you on Sun. A Wallowing day. What a blast..Next time I am having a bad day, I am going to ask Todd if I can have a wallowing day. Pizza and pjs and all. I’m not sure however, that alex would like that too much. He didn’t even want me to sleep in all day after the lockin..hehhe. Go drink some more lemon tea, and watch out for that cold water. I love you!`
Hey Jenn,
I am so sorry you’ve been sick. I have not forgetten about you. I love you! I’ll be praying for you! You are an awesome friend! I’ll be in touch with you soon!
I am sorry you have been sick. Michelle told me yesterday & I was worried about you. I am glad that you are feeling better! I am proud of you being a big girl and going to the doctor. I am babysitting a certain adorable little boy so I will have to write more later. Alex said to tell his Aunt Jennifer who lives in a box he loves her. His Grammy does too!!!
I too am thankful that u went to the doctor! I am also thankful that you are feeling some better! I would love to have a wallowing day! I do think that the next time u are in America that we should have a wallowing day in our basement! You all have had everything else from Bible Study to birthday parties down there. Ha! Seems like I remember one pretty wild party down there. Ha! We are praying for you! love, Mama Ellis
I’m so proud of you for going to the doctor! It made me think of Michelle in biology trying to stifle her cough and act like she felt fine. I’m proud of you for being humble and going. 🙂
I’m also surprised that you didn’t take the opportunity to call on our handsome house-call doctor! I’m glad the Lord provided a good doc for you, though. And I’m glad you had a wallow day! We sort of had a few of those when I was there with my crazy ankle, huh?
I love you lots!
