mommy wow.. i’m a big girl now

Some of the group that ate at our house at thanksgiving!

The table.. this was not at all close to with all the food on it.. but I wanted you to see Leanne how much we appreciated your tablecloth and napkins.. it helped make the day!

YUCK.. me taking the neck out of the turkey… I look far to happy in this photo!

The yummy turkeys when we finished.. i cannot believe that they turned out soo good!

So why am I a big girl now? Because I have officially (with leah) cooked my first turkey… and in my opinion I am now a grown up. Leaving my family and coming across the world to serve God.. that did not make me a grown up necessarily. Nope.. what did it. Making my first turkey in my opinion! HEhehee..

I pray that you guys had a fabulous thanksgiving. My THREE were awesome.. I just spent all week celebrating. .. which seems right because I truly have SO much to be thankful for. I am so blessed. From when I rise up in the morning till I lay my head to rest I am blessed. I am blessed with the presence of God, the power of God in my life, and the patience of God as He works out His glory in ME! So this blessed girl spent three days celebrating. For those who care at all.. here’s the play by play

Thanksgiving day #1 (real turkey day in nepal). We had thanksgiving feast with Shyam and Pauala, Margie and Orin, and Matt and Ashley. It was awesome because we just spent all day going from flat to flat borrowing things.. oops.. I’m out of eggs.. let me just run upstairs. It’s very handy for when you are cooking a thanksgiving meal. But anyways.. we ate upstairs and paula and shyam’s house. She had it decorated awesome.. the table even had leaf place cards! WE had a feast and then we watched their three kids do a thanksgiving program. It was so cute! Then we did the most awesome thing.. we acted out the first thanksgiving. WE were each given a script and it was frankly hilarious. I laughed my head off at our rendition.. Then shyam did a devotion and we sang some hymns. It was awesome.. then we played games together all day and watched ELF. Awesome thanksgiving day number one. I am so blessed with my team (and friends)
End of thanksgiving day #1 Leah and I start the grown up event.. cooking our first turkey. Not only is this a big deal because it’s our first.. but it’s a big deal because The guy that bought the imported turkeys for us paid a total of about 200 USD.. so if anything went wrong on our first turkeys.. he may never speak to us again! Friendship on the line here. You should have seen leah and I trying to de-gut the turkey.. hilarious.. then figuring out what to do next. We laughed our heads off
Thanksgiving day #2 prayed over the turkey and annointed it with “butter” .. Put it in at and said a prayer that it would be good 1:00 friends start arriving.. imagine mass chaos in a small kitchen.. lots of fun. Again lots of trips up and down the stairs using their ovens, pots, eggs ect also. 15 people come.. 2 nepalees, 1 swedish, 1 norweigan, 1 norweigan american and the rest american. We laugh ALOT. we EAT ALOT. ALOT ALOT.. everything that is normally at a thanksgiving dinner we had, included hoarded all year cranberry sauce! Great time of love and laughter. played games, ate some more. The power went out so we played charades in the dark. then watched it’s a wonderful life when it finally came back on.. oh yeah and as we were eating we went around the circle and told what we were thanksgiving full.. my big one.. THAT THE TURKEY TURNED OUT YUMMY! hehehe.. just kidding…. we all just basked in the faithfulness of God!!
Thanksgiving day #3: went to nepalee church.. tauhgt the nursury class for the little ones. Then we left for the next thanksgiving feast at some friends who work for the IMB. We had a great time. We ate some more.. and then we played football. I had a blast. I have no skill– God passed over me in that department. .. but had a blast running up and down the field and laughing my head off
So those were my 3 thanksgivings.. great ones for which I am very thanksgivng. Oh yeah and I got to talk to my family like 3 times which made me VERY VERY happy! Thank you Jesus for my awesome family.. i love you guys and the only thing that could have made this thanksgiving better is if I had been with you guys!

  1. Jenn, I am so glad to see that your package came in time for Thanksgiving! Everything looks so yummy. I love the cupcakes and turkey cake, they are so festive and creative! You could start an American cafe with all they you have learned to do over there 🙂 Congrats on the turkey…I am with you on “you know your grown up when you cook your own turkey” 🙂 Thank you for your faithfulness to the blogging world, you are truly an encouragement.

  2. I’m proud of you with your turkey! I wish I could have been there to enjoy it with you…and see you trying to figure out how to cook it. I miss you a lot. Let’s have a skype date soon. Or at the very least, an obnoxiously long facebook message marathon!

  3. Jenn,

How wonderful and relived I am to hear that you had 3 Thanks givings. It sounds like you all’s Thankgiving was much more worshipful than the average American thankgiving! Thanks for the lovely post and comment on my blog! I love you! Mom’s gone to Bunco,. I’ll write you very soon!

  4. Jenn,

I’m so happy to hear that you had such a great Thanksgiving, and I’m very impressed with your cooking skills. Your blog reminded me of the first time I tried to cook a turkey. I bought one of those Butterball turkeys that had the little red indicator button that was supposed to pop out when the bird was cooked. Well, it never did. I just kept watching and waiting, and it just kept cooking and cooking. That was the driest turkey I have ever eaten. It’s obvious you didn’t depend on a little red button to tell you when to take your birds out of the oven. They were a beautiful sight to behold!

Your Thanksgiving was a lot more fun than mine, but more importantly, more thankful and worshipful. Sometimes our traditions become just traditions, and we lose sight of what the holiday represents. Thank you for reminding us how blessed we are and how thankful we should be.

    Love you bunches,
    Sandra
