Party weekend

Me with my adopted nephew corbin eating his one year old birthday cake!
Me with ‘Cai, my other adopted nephew.. He calls me Aunt Jenn.. and it’s soo cute. He turned two.

Leah with her birthday crown at the food table.. filled with yummy goodness!
Me and paula making the dipping chocholate. Yummy. Paula came to the rescue because my first pot was a disaster! Who knew chocholate could do what it did!
Isn’t that beautiful ambience.. this was the chochalate dipping table.

Me and the girls who helped me make this party look so beautiful.
Me and Amber working in the kitchen.
I mean really– would you expect beauty like that in Nepal! The dill pickles were defionatly the favorite!

Hello family–

I must say I am a little sad because now the hindu holiday is over we are back to basically having no power. So sorry about the lack of updating. I was overwhelmed with the reponse from my last blog post.. it’s so exciting to me that God used something that ministered to me to minister to you!

I had a great week. Busy but great. Most of my week went towards running around getting things together for leah’s birthday party. In nepal things take much much longer.. so getting things done for a simple birthday party can take all week. But it was such a blast. It was a cooking party kind of week. Thursday had our whole household/team over for chili and that was a great time. I am continually praising God lately at how He has brought our team together in unity and to become a true family– which is something I have prayed for for a while! Thanks for joining with me in praying that.

So thursday cooked a big old pot of chili. Friday night we went bowling.. the whapping 3 lanes at the bowling ally. Then Saturday was the birthday party for leah.

It was so awesome because well I love to plan parties.. or be at them.. and I had this vision for a beautiful wine and cheese (don’t worry we are baptist m*ssi*ionaries.. no wine really.. just grapejuice) party for leah. I wanted it to look very elegant and beautiful.. why cheese .. because cheese is so hard to get here and it is leah’s favorite food.. so i have been stocking up on all the fancy expensive cheeses and other hard to get things like olives, dill pickles (a HUGE hit at the party) and such. (it’s soo funny the things you get excited about living on the m field)

So I had this vision in my mind of what I waned it to look like… but here’s what I learned about the beautiful body of Christ. I know in the past I have made the mistake of wanting to look like super jenn and do it all myself. I decided not this party– so I called my friends betsy and amber to help. (and had my friend ashley make bruchetta and pretzals that were yummy!) God has given us each such unique gifts. My gift.. the visionary– let’s have a party kind of girl.. my non gift– making it look beautiful like I had in mind. My friends betsy and amber helped me and it surpassed my dreams about it.. I know this may seem trivial.. but over here things are hard.. you have to learn to celebrate BIG.. and I wanted leah to celebrate her birthday big. It turned out so beautiful and reminded me soo much of how beautiful God put together the body of Christ. We had it candlelit with soft music playing.. and it was just soo nice. The Lord ended up romancing me through it also. Sometimes ministry is not always about the nepalee people– sometimes it’s about those that are serving God here!

oh yeah– then I am throwing in some pictures from my adopted two nephews birthday party on sunday (I made 40 homemade tortillas for that party– like I said quite the party weekend). They are soo cute. Corbin turned 1 and cai turned 2. I love how I get to play aunt Jenn.. even though I miss my real nephew sooo soo much!

ok.. so that’s enough of my party weekend. Some points of prayer for you

1) This weekend Leah and I are taking my Bible college girl students on a spiritual formation retreat. Pray for that to go well

2) next thursday leah and i leave for an amazing trip to europe that God placed in our laps. I will tell you more about that later.. but if you will begin now praying for this trip.

I love you guys. Did i mention that!

  1. We were so sad that we didn’t get to talk to you very long. We figured that your electricity went out. I am glad that you had a fun weekend. Your party looked very fancy. I hope we get to talk to you again soon. We love you very very much!!!

  2. I love the pictures of your very elegant party and the very elegant Jenn. I haven’t seen a photo of your shorter haircut. It’s very cute, indeed.

I searched the pictures carefully to see if there were any signs of the spider bites, but I didn’t see anything. Are the places completely healed, or were they just covered up? If your smile is any indication, you must be as good as new.

We’ll be praying about your trips. It’s hard to keep up with when and where you’ll be next. But God knows your exact location at all times, and His goodness and mercy is following you wherever you go.

    Love you bunches,
    Sandra
