a daily life in our crazy life :-)

Howdy guys. Hope this finds you guys having had an incredible week and an awesome weekend so far. Lots of people ask me all the time what our daily life looks like here as “m”s. .. so this week I purposefully paid attention so I could let you know what a couple of days in our life looks like. I must warn you though.. nothing ever happens the same time same way around here.. hehehe.. there is NO such thing as a schedule.. because it’s laughable if you make a schedule or a plan around here. If you do you must be prepared with plan A B C and then Y and Z because plan a, b and c never go as planned 🙂

Ok.. so here goes:
Monday : We decided to cancel our normal language lessons this morning because we wanted to help show around the team that was with nathan and sarah. So I wake up at 5:45 and sleepily drag myself out of bed and go about five minutes down the road to my friend ashleys house to do pilates. We do this on monday, Wednesday and friday– or at least we are supposed to 🙂 Then I come back and have some great coffee and time with Jesus. No morning shower for me.. the water does not get hot until mid afternoon
We are supposed to meet the team at a bakery around 10.. we get there nepalee time at 10:30 then we have a great time showing them around town. It was awesome.. we come back home quickly then change clothes to head to the Bible college to play volleyball with the team and the students. I had a blast. I love to play volleyball even though God missed me when he was passing out the volleyball skills! We played until we were exhausted and then had a momo eating party with the students. Then we came back home and ran upstairs to paula and shyam’s house (our teamleaders who live above us) we usually have prayer time every monday night, but tonight we had yummy birthday cake for orin paula’s dad who also live above us. We love it when we get to celebrate birthdays around here. especially when it involves yummy cake!

Tuesday: Wake up at 6ish (the sun cups up super early here). Did some exercise then again had a great coffee date with jesus. I didn’t get much sleep the night before because of the man eating mosquitos eating my face… i looked like I had a disease when i woke up.. on the list for the day– go buy an electric mosquito killing thing… Got ready, picked up my friend ashley who needed a ride into town, hopped on the scooter and went into town to meet my friend Sita for Bible study at a cafe. We are now studying the book of John and I really enjoy it.. it’s all in nepalee so it’s great practice. Then I run to the grocery store (I use that term lightly) to pick up some chicken and suchings for tonights dinner. Come back, change clothes and go teach my Biblical counseling class at the Bible college. Then come back, eat lunch with leah and my friend maya and my language teacher, then have language for an hour. Then i start cooking for dinner, where the shoppkeepers beside our house come over for dinner. I made fried chicken and mashed potatoes.. wanted to give them some southern culture. After we ate wtih them, we had no lights so leah and i watched a movie on my computer

Wednesday: Pilates at 6, then took my new friend hannah for a welcome to nepal suprise massage. The place where they give the massages is my happy place as they have the cutest little coffee shop there. I sit in there and study for 3 hours for Bible study on Wednesday night while she is getting her massage.. in between studying talk to the cute little ladies that work there.. then we run home, I change clothes and get the house ready for the ladies. The Bible study is supposed to start at 4 which usually in nepalee time means 4:45. About 20 ladies came and we had a great time.. we eat, sing, fellowship and they bear with me as I try to teach in nepalee.. then afterwards 2 of the girls stay over and we have dinner together.

Thursday: Walk into town to meet with Sita (about 30 minute walk) because there is no petrol available right now.. good exscuse for exercise huh. Am 30 minutes late to meet her because I run into a nepalee friend of mine and we have to stop and have tea.. this is ok.. because of nepalee time 30 minutes late is no problem.. we meet and have bible study and then i go and try to get money out of the atm.. there is no power so i go to several ones before getting one to work.. don’t have time to walk back before my class so we haggle for a taxi (i am the worst taxi haggler) .. i come back and come and teach my last class at the bible college for this semester. The come back, have lunch with a nepalee friend and my language teacher, then take language. After language leah hannah and i went to one of my bible study ladies house for dinner and ate way more rice and lentils then i ever wanted to.. but we had a great time.

Friday: Friday hannah and my friends matt and ashley and I went shopping for glasses.. as you remmeber my glasses melted along time ago and i still have not bought any– so we went looking for that and some fabric for hannah to get some nepalee clothes. Then we rushed back, and picked up my teammate leah. Then leah and i went into town to meet a girl that we are trying to build relationship with because she is in a cult. We had coffee with her for an hour, then she and her other hindu friend who we met that day came back with us to our house to play volleyball at teh bible college. We played volleyball for about 2 hours, then leah and i went and had dinner with our team leaders wife paula.

Saturday: We have church on saturdays.. so I got up and went to church– a very very long service.. 3 1/2 hours…. 3 1/2 hours later church was finished and I came home and had lunch. Then I went to the oprhnage, picked up the kids and me and hannah and matt took the kids to a pool they just built near our house. We played with them about 3 hours, then I came back to play volleyball with the bible college. The volleyball game fell through, so I stopped by the orphange and played some badmittion with the kids, then went to matt and ashleys house where we had dinner and played games.

Sunday: today– it’s our sabbath day and we work hard to keep it that way. so i slept in until 8.. then made pancakes (thanks kim) for leah and i.. then leah adn i spend the morning listening to a tape of a womens conference and playing a game. I love it. . it was so much. Then I jumped in the very cold shower.. but I was so excited to get a shower because we have been out of water for 3 days so today we could finally shower and flush the toilets 🙂 and now am writing this. Then we are leaving to go across town for our foreigner fellowship. It’s at the boys house and well they aren’t the best cooks, so we will stop at the store and buy some groceries to cook for them. Then we are going to prayer walk around teh buddhist steeple by their house and go to fellowship..

This is my life… I love it..

  1. It’s fun getting to hear about your week. Esp. being able to pictures some of it. Did you meet the team at the Bakery Cafe? Cause there’s a gutter there you really have to watch out for…

I’m guessing you met them at Higher Ground, though. I wish I could come spend the summer with you there. I miss you so much and I am really missing being there with you. Esp. after reading this post.

    Love you a lot!

  2. JEnn..you are one busy girl. It was so fun to read that post about all you do. I was so excited to talk to you last night. I can’t tell you how much I have missed you. I love you

  3. Oh how the memories come back after reading your ‘typical’ week. It feels just like I was there with you! I am so looking forward to being back on that side of the world although I really will miss Nepal! I’m glad things are going well! Have an awesome day!

  4. Jenn,

Whew, I’m worn out from just reading this blog! I don’t know how you keep going at that pace. It’s a good thing everyone runs late in Nepal because it would be hard to be on time for all of those Bible studies, classes, dinners, lunches, shopping and games (especially since you seem to be running home to change clothes several times a day.) What do you do about laundry?

I’m so glad you took the time to let us know what your life is like there. I thought of you today when some folks were on the news complaining about not having water to take a shower or flush the toilets for two days due to heavy rains and flooding (not here-in some other state.) We are such wimps and so spoiled in the U.S. We take all of our conveniences for granted. Your blogs have caused me to be much more thankful for everything we have.

    Love you bunches,
    Sandra
