the nepalee word for patience

So I had to post this because I forgot to share with you the most hysterical thing ever from Bible study the other day. I seriously find myself laughing all the time here.. but this well.. i could barely contain myself. (and you know that I can’t laugh quietly either)

so I was teaching Bible study the other night and the first verse I started with was Galatians 5. I had studied it in nepalee script that day, but I had not pronounced apparently the nepalee word for patience right… because if I had I would have probablly been more prepared for the BIG laugh… i was asking the girls which of the fruits was the hardest one for them and this one girl said diarrhea…. i thought surely i must have misheard her….. nope she said it again and i could not help myself …. me and leah and my teamleaders wife burst out into laughter.. the nepalee word for patience sounds just like the english word for diarrhea.. how hysterical is that. appropriate huh? I laughed so hard and I had to share that with you
So this weekend my friends maya and sita spent the night with us last night… we went out to eat at a mexican restraunt (the only one in nepal) and then they came back and we watched a movie and laughed and well just talked like girls do.. it ws so much fun. I love those girls. And now we have a big old couch that we had made in our living room that could sleep a small army. I am attaching a picture of the couch..a nd the beautiful picture above it painted by a man at our church– we may live in a third world country and not have electricity alot of the time, but thanks to leah our house looks like the pottery barn.. it’s great… oh yeah.. the other pics are from the other day when I went to the village to speak (preach– but don’t tell the baptist’s that’s the word the lady that invited me to go used)

This is the memory verse we learned last week.. in nepalee script.. i am still amazed all the time that I can actually read this now.. glory to God.. i’m sure you recognize the verse huh?

  1. That is Hilarious!! Other Languages are always an adventure! Have you come across any words that dont mean anything in english? Those are the best:)
I’m in awe of how much you’ve learned! (Alhumdu Isa). Remember you’re in our prayers ๐Ÿ˜‰

  2. Jenn,

No wonder being patient is so uncomfortable and difficult to hold on to most of the time! Now I’m going to think of this story whenever a teacher or preacher talks about the fruit of the spirit, and I’ll have to try to hold in my laughter. (I’m like you, Jenn. I snort when I laugh, and that can be really embarrassing when you’re in church!)

I love the pictures of your friends on your new couch and the ladies in the village. It’s hard to visualize what your life in Nepal looks like, so the pictures always help. By the way, could you post of picture of the crazy traffic there? (Just don’t take it while you’re trying to dodge a cow, please.)

You are too funny, and you are such a delightful friend.

    Love you bunches,
    Sandra

  3. Jenn: I have to ask?? What in the world are you and the other lady eating in the picture? At first I thought it was the longest pickle in the world! TJ said no it must be bread! I blew the picture up and it looks like you are eating bamboo sticks. Now, I know that there is a shortage of food, but oh me! Please tell me what you are eating! Ha!

BTW I love your black and red outfit. It looks so bright and cheerful just like you always are. Your new couch looks great and I do love the painting in the back ground. I love the Bible Verse in the painting and the bottom part of the picture is so typical for the culture that you are in.

I want you to know that I saw your Mom and Dad this past Thurs. evening and they both look great! I got to spend some time with your Dad. He is working on a ministry with some contractors and he is trying to reach out to these men who are professional painters. He talked to me about the men doing a project at our house that would be a big help to TJ and the family. Iโ€™ll email you about it sometime.

I also got to spend some time with your lovely sister who is glowing with happiness in her life. Peanut has made her just glow! I think things went well on Friday evening with TJ giving her testimony to the youth girls from your church.

Now, you should have a package arriving any day. It was mailed on Feb. 23rd. The # is CP415894677US. Check at the post office next week. We love you and canโ€™t wait for the next posting. Momma Ellis

  4. I love those pictures! You look beautiful as ever. I’m glad you are enjoying your birthday card project! So many people love you Jenn, and others who don’t even know you are encouraged by what you are doing! Please answer my mom’s question, we are just crazy with wonder, I’m glad you liked your video on my blog.

Thank you for updating your blog, we all love hearing about your life! D-NOW FRIDAY WAS GREAT! I love you girl! Have a blast with Casey!

  6. Sometimes I have to pinch myself when I look at the pics of you in nepal. I can’t believe that is my sis in those pics. God is using you so powerfully. I am so blessed to be your sis. I can’t wait for Casey to get there, and I know you will have a blast together. I Love you!
