The princess and the pea

Isn’t that an awesome blog title? Before I write anymore.. I must give the credit to my teammate leah. We discuessed this in the taxi and I promised that I would. 🙂 So Leah.. just for you.. The princess and the pea! (Thanks for being such an incredible teammate girl.. did i mention how much i appreciate you.. let me count the ways.. :-))
So why would I call this the princess and the pea. So last Wednesday’s discipleship group I gave them a whole bible study on how they are a princess of the king of kings. There assignment for the week ( I give them an assignment every week) was to talk to at least one non christmas and tell them how they are a princess! So I am so excited about this assignment. These women were hilarious. They had never even thought of this concept before. I loved it when one woman said, well I am going to go home and tell my husband that I am a princess! 🙂
So about the pea. For those of you that know me , in my various adventures in other countries I can eat almost anything. I have eaten all manner of unidentifiable meat, body parts from animals, live things, dancing things.. the I just can’t look at you and i must swallow kinds of things.. but I have to tell you what is currently doing me in an nepal. Would you please pray for me and the PEA. I really have nothing against peas.. i can eat them all day long. But there is a certain spice they put on these hard peas here that for somereason seriously causes me to almost vomit, or to gag alot. A simple little green pea…but they always pile my plate with them. I went to a Hindu home today and we had a great time with them, and we ate a ton of food ( I mean I am not exaggerating when I say they pile your rice up like mt. Everest, and then give you more) I loved the rice, the dhal (lentil),buffolo meat balls and all the chicken body parts, tomatoe achar, and even the sweet meat that they give you that you can tolerate if you think peanut butter and not meat.. but then there were those peas with the spice…. those pesky little peas. Ke garne.. (what to do) I eat the peas and literally try not to throw up. How is it that peas could do this to me? I mean is this my thorn in the flesh. Paul had one, maybe these peas that they always feed me are my thorn in the flesh. .. so would you pray for me, if it is not removed to be able to eat them,, or to swiftly throw them to partner leah who says she will eat the peas all day long for me if i will eat the meat that you have to think is peanut butter if you want to keep it down. hmm…….we are preparing to go to a village for 3 weeks (we leave january 4th) and i fear there will be many of these peas. So if you want to fast and pray for me.. hehehe

on a serious note, many people have e-mailed me because south asia has been in the news a great deal lately.. which is funny because we hear of none of it here. I was not on the bridge that collapsed in nepal, in fact it was very far from here, althogh it was very sad for me because all of those people were on a hindu pilgrimage, and those that died probablly died not knowing Jesus. Sadly that story only made a small article in the paper here because things like that happen all the time. The other news in nepal is on monday supposably they officially abolished the monarchy and declared nepal a republic. What does this mean? Who knows, there is frankly no one in charge here. It’s a really sad state the country is in. They declared it a republic and are supposed to have elections in april, although they have supposed to have them in august, november and now april. The political unrest here is so sad and the country is paralyzed until peace comes. The maoist communist party is determined to take over. …. so please pray for my country!
Also in pakistan with the assasination, don’t worry that did not affect us. However allover south asia there is such political unstability. When you pray please think of it in this way– i truly believe that it represents the spiritual war that is going on for these countries. I know that we are on the winning team.. just pray for us in the battle.

i love you guys
sorry.. also pray because i have not been able to post pictures to my blog, i am not sure what is wrong, but it has not been working lately so just pray .

  1. Hey sweetness, I hate to break it to you, but your crafty blog title is actually plagiarism. There’s a whole fairy tale with that title.

I just wanted you to be aware. Sorry to have to break the bad news to you. Love you!

  2. Jenn,

Is it considered terribly rude in Nepal to just say, “Thanks, but I don’t care for any peas?” Or could you learn the word for allergy in Nepali? Then you could say, “I’m sorry, but I’m allergic to peas.” I think spontaneously needing to vomit qualifies as an allergic reaction, don’t you?

Wow, what a dilemma! I can certainly empathize with you. There are certain foods that make me gag just to think about tasting them. I will be praying for both you and Leah and your aversions to spicy peas and peanut butter meat. Ugh, I just gagged! If God could make a poisonous snake non-poisonous to Paul, He can certainly make pesky peas non-pesky to His princess Jenn!

    Love you bunches,
    Sandra
