Crazy busy awesome week
Hello hello. Jamasee. Malaie asah cha tapaiko deri rhomro hapta cha. I hope that you are having a very great week. Before I come home on furlough you guys will be fluent nepalee speakers just like me huh? I have had an awesome week. Very busy but great. Before I describe my week, I thought I would make two different observations. I would like to call the first one you know you’ve live here a while when:
1) last night you are reading a book in bed enjoying winding down for the evening and the biggest most giantist spider you have ever seen comes crawling out from under your covers.. and you just calmly shove it across the room with your book.. you don’t even kill it.. hmmm
2) one of your favorite kids comes to you at church and jumps in your lap. you see she has head lice all in her head.. what to do? Pick out the lice of course….
3) you don’t light candles for ambience.. it’s because the electricity is out again
4) you encounter daily the most incredibly loving hospitable people that just need to know Jesus loves them
5) you make for real homemade vegetable soup and you can just got to the shop next door and ask for a kilo of allo (potatoes) lasson (garlic) galbeda (tomatoes) and the shopkeepr understands.
Next observations… I am trying to take up running again. It’s much more exciting to run in nepal. These are some of the thoughts that go through my head as I run
1) Watch out for that big pile of poo
2) Ok.. if I run past this big old cow will it start running after me
3) look at those gorgeous himillayas.. that will take your breath away (or maybe it is that i am out of shape)
4) wow.. there are five children.. six ducks, two really cute ducklings and 2 roosters running after me!! they like looking at this white girl run! 🙂
ok.. anyways– so yeah. Yesterday my favorite hindu shopkeepers came over and i cooked the vegetable soup. It was so much fun! I gave them a Bible and a tract, so just pray that God will use those seeds
Then tonight the pastor of my nepalee church and his wife came over and we had a great time together. So they are going to let me plan an evangelistic christmas play– so just pray for me as I write the script in the next few days– that it will be culturally appropriate and share the gospel. And please begin praying now for that christmas program.. that many non-believers will come. I have never directed a play before– let alone with nepalees. This time of year is an awesome time to outreach to non-believers. We also planned a night of christmas caroling to nonbelievers homes. And on wednesday i am going to start discipling a group of 4 or 5 ladies from our church. So God is opening many doors and I’m just stinking excited. .. mahima!! These next few weeks are super busy as I move upstairs, my teammate comes, my other teammate leaves, my regional administrator comes to visit, and some other big whigs from our company.. it’s exciting. Oh yeah– and me and nathan are cooking thankgiving dinner for a bunch of people.. no turkey– but we are going to try to find a pig to slaughter 🙂
on that note..
Jenn,
Your new blog page looks great! I thought I had gone to the wrong site for a minute. Then I read all of those Nepalee words (which I completely understood, of course), and I knew I was at the right place.
Your story about the spider freaked me out. I would have jumped out of my bed and ran screaming for someone to come and kill the monstrous thing! Then I wouldn’t have closed my eyes for the rest of the night. (You are a better woman than me, girlfriend!)
Your story about the head lice made me head itch. In fact, I’m scratching it right now. But your love for that little child touched my heart. And your observations about running in Nepal made me laugh out loud.
But the story that made me shout “Mahima” was the one about your pastor allowing you to put on an evangelistic Christmas play. Mahima! Mahima! Mahima! God has answered our prayers. I am asking Him to pour out a double-portion of His anointing on you as you write and direct this play. I can’t wait to hear how God uses it to touch the hearts of many Nepalees.
Your Thanksgiving celebration has started early, hasn’t it? The love of God shining through you gives me one more thing to be thankful for this year.
Love you bunches,
Sandra
You are so funny! I love reading what goes on in Nepal. The spider however would have terrified me!!! Please don’t get lice. Do you need us to send you some lice treatment??? Love you, girl!
