The mountains, pets, and post offices :-)

First of all I have to personally thank sandra rose again.. you are the best at encouraging me. I pray the Lord encourages you 100 fold for all you have done to encourage me since I have been here. I just got done watching the INN of sixth happiness that you sent me with my roommate and even though she is nepalee and didn’t understand it all we both cried through the whole thing. So thank so much. And tj and mama ellis and denise– i know the kids will love the stuff that you sent in the package 🙂

So I now know why my parents didn’t let me have pets. I am not very good with them apparently. For those of you that didn’t know, i inherited a dog and a cat with this house. Me and the cat have a love hate relationship. I like the dog but she stinks. 🙂 So the other day my didi (the lady that cleans my house.. there are perks here) said she needed to take my dog to the hospital because she wasn’t eating.. how sad is it that i didn’t notice. Then two days ago my cat came in and she looked like she had been electricuted. I was none to happy though because she put her and her dirty self all over my bed during the night. So the next day my didi told me she needed to go the hospital . (again who knew) She came back and apparently had almost died from food poisening from eating a poisened rat. hmm.. who knew? Then she disappeared for two days and then today reappeared with crazy looking wounds all over. hmmm…..

Ok.. and for the post office. I was so excited to get a package today and I must say here it is the most hilarous process. When you get a package you have to go to the main post office.. which frankly is the most scary looking place in nepal. They keep it very dimly lit and I just really wish I could take a picture of it and the process.. very nepalee. First you have to pass room 1-28 and find room 29. Then you try to talk in nepalee to the man at the counter, and he has you give a copy of your passport, sign yoru birthright away and thumbprints and toeprints (ok.. a slight exaggeration).. then you go to another room where there are about 15 men sitting around. You find one man and he signs your paper and you pay him a little money.. then you go back to the counter and sign something again.. adn then you go back to the room and a different man signs.. then back to the counter.. hehehe.. i am not sure why one man couldn’t do it all.. but it was just hilarious. I was laughing the whole time (inside of course) at how many different men could sign your paper. I really had no idea what was going on the whole time.. but I was just excited to get the package. It was hilarious!

So when I got home today from that, I was coming in my door and saw out of the corner of my eye the himilayan mtns. This is the first time of the season they have showed up because they have been covered by clouds. I cannot describe how you feel when you see these HUGE mtns (they make the smokies look like a small hill) come out from the clouds. It literally took my breath away. So I went on the roof and just looked and heard the Lord clearly say Psalms 121 I lift up my eyes to the hills from where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord, the maker of heaven and hearth. He will not let your foot be moved, he who keeps you wil not slumber nor sleep. The Lord is your keeper and your shade at your right hand. The sun shall not strike you by day nor the moon by night. The Lord will keep your life.

So remember today– lift your eyes to the hills.. The lord– the maker of those hills that are hopefully going to be changing colors soon… that is where your help and my help comes from if we will let it. .. or we can try on our own.. hmm

  1. Jenn,

I got so excited when I read your entry! God is so good! I am praying for you!!!!!!!! I am thrilled you got the Package!

Don’t worry… Justin killed a squrriel with a Pantball gun, so he burried it. Mom cracked up, last night. It was great talking to you last night. When do you leave for Thiland? I’m already praying for safety. You will never know how much you encourage me Jenn. I love you so! I work the helpline tonight.

  2. Jenn: I am so thrilled that you finally got the package. I mailed the package on Sat. Sept. 15th. So it took it about 2 weeks and 2 day get there. Now, I do not understand why you should have had to pay anything to get it. I want you to ask some of the nep girls why you had to pay anything. We want to send more packages, but we do not want you to have to pay for anything.
That cat sounds like an old dog we use to have! Smokey was the eternal dog. The vet told us when he was 2 that he was going to die if I didn’t let him do surgery on him. I told the vet that I didn’t have $300 at that time for him to have the surgery. I want you to know that dog lived for 14 more years with out surgery. ha! I didn’t think he would every die. ha! You remember him! ha! It was so good to see your face on the webcam last night! You look so good!
TJ has informed me that you were going to be out of coffee soon. Bless you! We will see what we can do about that soon.
well, I must go! I have so many papers to grade tonight and now that I’m helping coach basket ball at my school I do not get home until sometimes after 6 or 7pm. Once the games begin I want be home till after 9pm some nights.
The mts. there just sound so unbelieveable. I can’t even begin to pic. what they are like. It is cool here in the mornings now. In fact I had to wear a sweater this morning. Take care…..I’m having a cup of coffee thinking of you right now! Momma Ellis

  3. Jenn it was great to hear your sweet voice the other night. I think and pray for you often. Miss your smiling face. We enjoyed having Todd and Michelle over Sunday night. They are doing a good job with the youth. Hope to go to the Harry and David store soon and get you some Moose Crunch coffee to send to you. YUM!!! Your blogs are always so encouraging. Thank you for your willingness to be used by our Lord.

    Love you!

  4. HEy gorgeous. I am so excited I got to talk to you today. YOu are the best. I am praying you have a wonderful next couple of days and get some rest. I love you my dear.

  5. Jenn,

I’m so glad you liked The Inn of the Sixth Happiness. When I watched that true story of Gladys Aylward’s call to China, I thought about how similar the two of you are. No matter what anyone said to discourage her from making the trip or what struggles she had to go through to get there, she was determined to fulfill God’s call on her life. Just like you.

What an inspiring story! And what an inspiration you are to the rest of us. Just as Gladys Aylward’s life had a profound effect on the people of China, I know you are having an equally profound effect in Nepal.

Thank you so much for your email. That meant so much to me, and it came on a day when I really needed it.

    Love and prayers,
    Sandra
